5. Justice is righteousness, doing the fair thing because its right either morally or by law. One of the most unjust things I’ve heared of was the Salem Witchcraft Trials in 1692. There were many people that were lynched, torchered, and drowned because of several girls who pretended that they had been afflicted with evil from people that they said were witches. Once being accused as a witch there was nothing they could do or say to prove that they were not.
6. If your personal differences haven’t caused you friction with others I would be concerned. Just think about it, everybody in the world has at least one person that they can’t get along with. I can usually tolerate people that have personal differences than me, but sometimes one of their differences is that no matter what they just can’t stand people who don’t think the way they do and those are the people that I can not tolerate. It depends on what they are intolerant of, but most likely I’ve got my friend’s back so of course I would defend them.
7. Racism- hatred or intolerence of another race or races. Sexism- discrimination based on gender. Ageism- discrimination based on age. Classism- discrimination based on a persons social or economic status, or class. All of them are destructive to humans because they are separtating us into groups that make people think there is a superior race, gender, age, or class. There is also terrorism.
It was a hot, sunny day when some friends and I took a trip to Dexter Lake. The three of us played on the dock while Katie’s parents unloaded the boat. Just as we were starting to have a good time throwing eas other into the water, we heard,” Girls, we need you to find someone who can jump start the boat.”
We wandered around for awhile before finding an old man who said he would help. He got our boat started and was chatting with the parents. I was talking with Katie when I saw our friend, Chessi, running toward me. To get back at me from a little earlier, she shoved me off the dock.
As I was in the air, I turned to look at the water. Instead of seeing the lake, I saw a very fast turning propellar just below the surface. I was scared out of my mind, so I starting flailing my arms, trying to avoid landing on it. Finally hitting the water, I realized that I had not been chopped up into pieces. However, I could feel the bubbles and water being forced from the motor against my legs. I quickly swam backwards. Then, I looked up towards my friends and they appeared almost as worried as I was.
Still being slightly shocked I squirmed around trying to get up before I was hoisted back up onto the dock. I could tell Chessi was a bit shaken so I gave her a hug and tried to crack a joke. She just stared at me, crying, repeatedly saying,” I thought I killed you. I thought I killed you.”
Our parents have always told us that we need to pay attention to our surroundings and not to play around the boat. It took us until that day to actually obey what they said. Sometimes we all need a little reminder, possibly a scary one, because we all have rules for a reason.
I think text messaging is fine because parents are always complaining about teenagers being on the phone chatting instead of interacting with the people around them. If they are texting then they can still be engaging in another activity as well and even if they get a message they don’t have to respond right away. Depending on the day i will send somewhere from 0-200 in a day and there are about 10 people I text regularly. I don’t think texting affects my writing because I usually don’t use text language when I speak or write. In schools, texting is a usual activity but I don’t think it has a role in any other aspects except for cell phone advertisements. Its just one of those everyday things. It is however affecting how people communicate. This is a somewhat lazy generation and people use text messaging while they lay around instead of getting out and physically doing things. It seems like more and more people are communicating through text rather than face to face.
A new understanding in mu book is the connection between diabetes and the tilapia fish. Diabetics need insulin which is created in only a few cells in the pancreas. Tilapia are being researched because they are composed of only insulin-secreting cells. They also can withstand the human body temeratures because they are a tropical fish which would make them perdect for transplants into human diabetics. Pg 94 of Sensuous Seas.
A blog is a type of online journaling that can be shared easily with other bloggers. I heard about blogs from my uncle, who keeps a family blog, and then again for this literature class. I am really not good with computers. I need a lot of instuction because I don’t use them often. I usually only use them for researching or e-mailing. I think writing is one of those necessary evils. You need it and it’s very useful, but I don’t like writing. If I have to write I would write a persuasive or expository essay. People are so concerned about kid’s safety on the internet because some kids don’t know that people can track them down by the things they put on it. It can be dangerous, but if you are careful and know what you’re doing then the internet can be safe. My peers usually use the internet for looking for music or funny vidoes. I’m not really excited about doing the blogging for this class because I think is unnecessary and I will have to come in during my lunch to do it if I don’t finish in class.
The book i chose is “Sensuous Seas” by Eugene H. Kaplan. I chose it because its is stories about a marine biologist and his experiences with his research. Stories about the sea intrest me and this book is filled with them. The species are most interesting and most people rarely get a chance to observe things under the sea.
He tells you about how different species behave and what he has learned about them. He also explains things using diagrams and pictures throughout each chapter. Memoirs about things he has experienced that tie into the marine biology are included as well. I’ve always wanted to be a marine biologist so I recieved the book as a gift to inspire me.
